We believe you. And we're not going to defend what happened.
People have done real damage in Christ's name. Pretending otherwise would be its own dishonesty. The only thing we'd ask is that you don't let what was done to you stand in for who He is. When Jesus described his own character, He chose two words — and neither of them was harsh.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest… for I am gentle and lowly in heart.”
